Acoustic Engineering Jobs
Acoustics, noise and vibration is a branch of physics and is the study of sound. We have a number of jobs for trainee and experienced acoustic engineers as this is a specialism at Brampton Stafford.
The application of acoustics in technology is called acoustical engineering, or noise and vibration engineering.
As a sector of employment within the environmental industry, acoustics, noise and vibration engineering covers to monitoring and control of the effects of sound and vibrations. Incorporated into acoustics and noise are the mechanical vibrations and radiation of these vibrations through mechanical waves. Hence, acoustics and noise are jointly concerned with vibrations.
The majority of employees in this industry either take a more engineering and technically ‘hands-on’route or more a consultancy ‘client-facing’ based route.
How to become an Acoustics, Noise &&&& Vibration Engineer or Consultant...
You would need to be qualified within this discipline, beginning at University studying a more general subject, such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Geography. Ideally you should obtain at least a bachelor’s degree in an environmental discipline (BSc). As part of this course, you would complete a final project to gain your ‘honours’, and if you are sure you want to progress into acoustics, or similar, then you would focus your project on this subject. Many graduates would then continue to complete a master’s degree and in many cases, a PhD in a higher-level, and more specialist subject, such as acoustics engineering, building acoustics, environmental acoustics, noise and vibration, or similar.
It would be most beneficial to recent graduates to have completed a year-in-industry work placement within industry as part of their course. Or at least completed summer work in a relevant industry. Even a little voluntary work whilst studying, helping you local environmental consultancy would give you that edge, and a sure route to gaining a job upon graduating.
Many environmental specialists aim to develop their career in such a way as to become chartered. You would begin this process by becoming a member of the recognised professional body within acoustics, noise and vibration; the Institute of Acoustics (IOA). Whether Chartered or not, membership of a professional body would help your application for vacancies. Professional bodies are there to support Chartership routes.
