| Job Description |
English Mother Tongue – Fluent German or Spanish Translation Team Leader
Salary = circa £24K - £26K + words per day bonus
Our client are a renowned translation company based near the Strand in Central London. The role will involve translation, proofreading and editing of legal and financial documentation and the supervision of a team of 2 staff translators and 2 trainees
You will have experience of translation within the legal, commercial or financial fields (either freelance or in-house), ideally with experience of managing a team.
The following linguistic skills are required:-
· A perfect command of all aspects and stylistic levels of English
· A postgraduate qualification in Translation, with two or more of the following languages as source languages:
· German, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish
· Expertise with legal and financial terminology must be demonstrated
Competence in the use of CAT tools and the maintenance of terminologies and glossaries.
Leadership
1. Maintain an active leadership role to motivate and direct the team to achieve word volume targets set.
2. Ensure the daily workload remains balanced across the team and that client delivery dates are achieved.
3. Identify skills requirements across the team and ensure that the mix of skills is appropriate to achieve the team objectives.
Job Management
7. Translation assignments will be allocated to a translator (freelance/in-house) by an operations co-ordinator
8. Research similar projects and previous client requirements to use as reference material (use of jobs database/existing TM)
9. Liaise with operations team and other translators on the project to ensure terminological and stylistic consistency
10. Translate using appropriate register and accurately conveying the meaning of the source text into the target language
11. Keep operations team informed of project progress.
12. Monitor job deadlines and ensure that all team members are meeting project requirements
13. Proofread and finalize translation ready for operations team to check/proofread
Quality Management
5. Maintain quality targets and ensure standards are kept at desired levels
6. Proofread and edit the work of other translators and complete assessments
7. Advise and guide other members of the translation team
8. Proactively participate in the Quality team to promote its success and maintain ISO 9001:2000 accreditation
9. Perform quality control reviews and draw up reports on findings for the Quality Team
10. Monitor and evaluate translator performance with Translation Resources manager
11. Advise on best-practise issues in Translation/Proofreading
Linguistic consultancy
4. Advise operations team and fellow translators on linguistic issues as required
5. Assist operations team assessing document technicality and genre
6. Manage and co-ordinate the team in the researching and compile glossaries, terminologies, TMs ensuring that they are also maintained in good order
General
4. Proof check as required
5. Complete word counts as required
6. Assist Translator resources and Operations as required
Translation skills
· A capacity to understand legal and financial texts in the source language and to render them correctly in the target language, using the register and other language conventions that correspond to their intended purpose.
· Ability to grasp complex and varied issues
· A capacity to obtain rapidly and efficiently, in both source language and target language, the background knowledge (facts, terminology, language conventions) necessary to produce a translation of professional standard, even in less widely known fields. This includes the ability to use research tools and to become familiar with research strategies.
· An interest and ability to master CAT tools and terminology tools, as well as internal office-automation software.
· Ability to translate a minimum of 3000 words per day
