| Job Description |
Mechanical Design Associate. Mechanical Design Engineer/Associate to provide an excellent service to clients within the boundaries of our client’s professional and commercial capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
· To support or represent the Directors in their absence as and when required · Develop new business by building on existing relationships and striving to impress new clients · Encourage the steady growth of the office, ensuring a smooth expanding period in terms of both staff and business/client base · Liaise with and provide project focal point for clients and lead/support consultants to ensure that client’s interests are effectively fulfilled · Liaising with site staff, contractors and suppliers on a day to day basis, whilst bearing budgetary issues in mind · Overseeing staff and recruitment issues to enable succession planning · Manage projects throughout, including the organisation of engineers and project delivery to time and cost requirements · Shared responsibility for the team of engineers currently employed · To manage the Mechanical/Electrical staff resource, maximising the potential and developing the staff as required · Ensure that all documentation issued is in accordance with relevant procedures, approval of specifications and tenders etc · Ensure application and maintenance of Quality System procedures · Contribute to the maintenance of the highest possible standards of design by maintaining an excellent working knowledge of proven building services systems, and encouraging the development of less senior staff by allowing them to learn from you · Distribute workload accordingly and liaise with technical and other support staff to ensure outstanding project delivery · Carry out all responsibilities of a Design Engineer, including but not limited to:
o Preparation and/or development of Client brief; o Development of project cost plans; o Assist where necessary in the estimation of project in-house resource requirements; o Assist in the development of project pre and post tender programmes; o Carry out surveys of existing facilities and prepare survey reports; o Prepare design calculations in accordance with all relevant standards and legislation adopting all necessary standard formats and procedures; o Prepare sketch design drawings in sufficient detail to enable draughts persons to produce satisfactory detail drawings as required for tender, construction or other purposes; o Prepare particular Project Specifications and Schedules adapting Standard Specification information where possible; o Prepare Bills of Quantities in accordance with current Standard Method of Measurement Documents; o Assist Clients in the selection of appropriate methods of contracting works; o Technically vent tenders and provide advice to Clients on acceptance; o Carry out site supervision duties as necessary to ensure works are installed in accordance with contract documentation and good engineering practice; o Assist in the financial control of contracts including the preparation of interim and final project valuations; o Prepare feasibility studies and any specialist studies as required by the project brief, justify systems selection by means of investment appraisal techniques, if required by project brief, prepare presentation material and carry out presentations to Clients.
