| Job Description |
Senior Analytical/Material Scientist. Senior Analytical/Material Scientist to provide high level technical input to the material property analysis program to effectively support the research and development focus, directed at improving device performance To improve current characterisation methods, develop scientific structure/properties correlations with performances and/or degradation mechanisms to provide new directions for the synthetic material development program.
Responsibilities: · Responsible for leading the technical direction of the monomer and polymer material characterisation. · Proactively collect relevant data and analyse them to extract statistically significant correlations between device properties and material and process parameters. · Clearly report findings and formulate recommendations. · Identify new approaches for material property characterisation. · Ensure full and thorough characterisation of new monomers and polymers. · Practical contribution to material characterisation, in particular chromatography and NMR. · Carry out materials property correlations and capture with high quality documentation. · Ensure active awareness of the IP implications and value of the work (‘know-how’ generation). · Communicate effectively across the scientific disciplines to promote internal discussion and move the material evaluation program forward. · Responsibility for maintaining a tidy and efficient laboratory environment and to ensure proper health and safety standards are maintained. · Take responsibility for leading the technical evaluation of R&D materials. · Design and execute experiments to correlate material properties to device performance and monomer properties to polymerisation process. · Improve the procedure for existing characterisation methods. · Identify and design experiments to explore new techniques to evaluate material properties, which maybe correlated with device and material performances. · With the help of modern statistical tools support the identification of correlations between materials properties, processing parameters and device performances. · Actively promote H&S culture. · Generate Intellectual Property (IP).
Requirements:
· PhD or equivalent research experience in analytical or related subject. · Excellent working knowledge of analytical techniques e.g. NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS, IC, ICP, DSC, CV, Raman spectroscopy, PL, FTIR. · Working knowledge of statistical methods, AC2, XPS, SIMS, UPS would be an advantage. · Experience in investigating polymer characterisation and degradation mechanisms · Experience in characterising organic light emitting materials (polymer or small molecule) would be advantageous. · Quantum chemistry knowledge would be advantageous. · Knowledge of polymer and phosphorescent systems. · Demonstration of clear systematic thought processes. · Excellent time management. · Proactive and self-motivated can identify, promote and implement relevant research activities. · Excellent communication skills: able to communicate clearly with people from a variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds at different levels of the organisation. · Must have strong team-playing skills and the ability to operate in multi-disciplinary/cross-functional team. Self-motivated individual able to show initiative and creativity, and operate independently in a synthetic chemistry laboratory environment.
