Job Description
SENIOR SCIENTIST – Godmanchester - £Excellent

Senior Scientist to drive the further development of numerical techniques and algorithms for advanced OLED display panel-addressing schemes, and support the development of display driver chipsets.

KEY RESULT AREAS

· Improve the calculation efficiency and resultant image quality of the existing TMA algorithm.
· Investigate other algorithms applicability to OLED display panel addressing schemes.
· Investigate the extension of OLED multi-line addressing schemes to higher resolutions and screen sizes.
· Liaise and support the development of driver chip sets.
· Support numerical simulation and modelling activities within other projects.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

· Development of metrics to characterise the performance of an algorithm in terms of image quality, resultant panel performance (panel power consumption), calculation efficiency (chip power consumption) and memory requirements (chip area).
· Optimisation of algorithms against the test metrics.
· Investigation of alternative algorithm formulations.
· Liaise with Mountain View and the Senior Electrical Engineer in the development of panel simulations to characterise panel performance.
· Involvement in other numerical simulation development activities as appropriate – for example active matrix panel simulation, physical device simulations (electrical, optical) – in collaboration with their owners.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

· Ideally a PhD (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or another engineering or science discipline with a strong numerical component.
· Around 5 years direct experience in algorithm development (ideally hi-tech environment). Experience of working with display drive schemes or image processing algorithms would be a distinct advantage but is not essential.
· A strong knowledge of linear algebra, linear programming and similar mathematical techniques.
· Experience of the development and use of numerical simulations
· Experience of combinatorial optimisation and design of experiment would be a distinct advantage.
· Computer literacy is essential.
· Good programming skills essential, particularly Matlab or C/C++ and similar.
· Knowledge/experience in Verilog would be a distinct advantage.
· Experience in physical simulation / computational physics would be an advantage.
· Experience of simulation tools and languages, such as Matlab or other mathematical packages.
· General knowledge of display technology in general and OLED in particular would be an advantage.
· Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to different levels within and outside the organisation.
· An independent, resourceful and highly motivated individual is required, who has demonstrated the ability to take initiative.
· Strong planning, prioritisation and time management skills with the capacity to work to tight deadlines
· Strong technical contributor with demonstrated innovation skills and idea generation.

· Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
· Creativity and flexibility are essential competences for this role
· Excellent team player
The nature and scope of this job description is not meant to be exhaustive and the duties may change from time to time, in agreement with the jobholder and their line manager.
