Graduate Jobs in Animation and Graphics
These two sectors particularly attract the creative and artistic ICT graduates. These roles will involve graduates being responsible for the creation and development of artistic material for film, Internet, games, posters, television, and more through the use of ICT programmes and packages.
Graduates wishing to enter into these disciplines will find employers from a variety of different industries, such as Computer Game Developers, Design Agencies, Web Agencies, Film Producers, Marketing Companies, and basically anywhere with requirements for design.
How to become an Animator/Graphic Designer
These roles differ from the majority of opportunities within the ICT sector, which is due to a specific or specialised qualification being essential to gain employment.
Characteristics of a candidate in this sector would be creative, artistic, innovative, driven, able to work to deadlines, and capable of communicating with clients.
Most Universities will offer graphics and animation courses, although some Universities will offer very specific degrees relevant to certain industries. For example, Hull University offers courses specific to the games industry. Candidates with educational backgrounds in art or graphics are also strongly looked for.
Due to the nature of the work involved, this industry is very appealing to art and ICT graduates, as such it is very strongly recommended that graduates create an online portfolio to enhance their appeal and demonstrate their skills.
Compiling a graphic design portfolio
Graphic Designers are frequenlty asked to provide a CV and also a design portfolio. Employers are keen to see examples of graphic work and we would advise you to produce range of work that can demonstrate your adaptibility and creativity.
It is also important to consider the work that you may have that relates to the company that you are targeting. Typically graphic designers provide a link to a web site containing their works or a CD-rom with their designs. If requested a winzipped attachement can also be a fast way of forwarding the relevant examples.
